The Light Carrier - A Dragonfly Shapeshifter Spirit Doll

Light Carrier - OOAK Dragonfly Spirit Doll In these Winter months and darker days, we often yearn for the Light. This week I created "The Light Carrier" an OOAK (original one of a kind) Spirit Doll. She is a shapeshifter - being part Wise Woman and part Dragonfly. She powerfully carries the Light with her and is a wonderful ally especially
during the Winter. Not only does she contain the light at all times, she is able to bend it to her needs. She assists in shining a light on the illusions around us, helping us to pull back the veils on hidden truths. Her Light is transforming, aiding in making a negative into a positive.

The "Light Carrier" is an OOAK (original one of a kind) Spirit Doll, designed as one of my Wise Woman Goddess Wands. The Goddess Wands can be utilized in variious ways such as : (1) Using the Ribbon Loop sewn at the back of her head, she can be displayed as Spiritual Wall Art, being a daily reminder of her symbolism. (2) As a Goddess Wand she can be used in Women's Groups or Gatherings, passed around the room and held by participants as they are Active Listening or Active Speaking, or ((3) As a Goddess Wand she can be a focal point during Visual Meditations.

The Things I Learned from a Seahorse...

Last night I sat down to try and organize the massive chaos in my tote bags and on my desk. Piles of post-its, jotted down notes, business cards, and notebooks with the "all so important" lists that I live by surrounded me.
I began putting things together and writing things in my calender, then adding more and more things to those lists. Art ideas, gallery opportunities, doctor appointments, supplies I need to buy, studios for rent, damn I forgot to pick up glass cleaner at the grocery store, and planning.......planning....planning. I could feel myself getting overwhelmed thinking of all the things I need to be doing while the world is moving so fast. It seems like everybody wants things...Yesterday...and I am constantly trying to keep up. A big deep sigh escapes from my lips when I know that all I really want to do is Paint and Breathe. Another even deeper sigh comes when I look at what's in front of me and realize that I am spending more time "planning" than I am "living".

Lessons from a Seahorse is an OOAK Poetry Pillow Art Doll

I thought of the Seahorse, floating around in that big beautiful ocean. The current rushes through pushing and pulling everything about, taking control of whatever isn't strong enough to hold their own. I could see the Seahorse grabbing onto some nearby sea grass and wrapping his tail around it, catching his breath in the process. He knows he needs to slow down and take care of himself, careful not to get swept up into something bigger than he can handle. He knows how to enjoy each moment and how to create the life that makes him feel most comfortable.  Seahorses are known as the Buddhas of the Ocean.

And this inspired my creation of a new Poetry Pillow Art Doll....

"She at long last found herself in a space of Contentment. Here she is able to Breathe and savor every single moment. She doesn't need to hurry through them any longer...for she now exists for each delicious minute of her Journey."

She has SOLD.
While she is an Original creation, please contact me if you would like me to make you one similar.

Goddess of the Ancient Wisdom and the Alcehmist's Metals

The Goddess of Ancient Wisdom presides over the Alchemist Metals and their symbolism. This Spirit Art Doll was created with each piece of the figurative sculpture being symbolic of the metals and elements. In early Babylonian time, certain metals were associated with planets.

The Symbolism of Gold and Silver Metals
Gold was known as the metal of Sun. Gold wire trim adorns the Goddess's hair, is within the print on her fabric, and a metal and glass sun embellishment is held in her hands. The Gold is symbolic for Achievement.

Silver was knows as the metal of the Moon. Silver charms and chain adorn this Goddess, along with silver being within the design on her fabric. The Silver is symbolic for the Feminine and Intuition.

The Elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water
My intention was to bring in these 4 elements into her creation. I used a wooden base to secure her on to symbolize Earth, to represent balance, grounding, and a firm foundation. I crafted the silk ribbon and wire trim in her hair in a flowing fashion to represent Air, to stand for flowing, movement, and the ability to adapt to change. The bronze toned sun rays represent Fire, for creativity, inspiration, and activity. The swirls in her fabric and metal charms is representative for Water, for emotions and matters of the heart.

She reminds of the quest for the elixir of life.

You Are Loved a Contemporary Folk Art Doll with Big Eyes and Big Love

We all have those moments of feeling a little lost and alone, don't we? No matter how strong and empowered as women we can be, there are just some days when we feel a bit vulnerable. Even when we are surrounded my lots of people and life is busy busy busy, we can still feel alone in this big fast-paced world.
For this very reason, I created "You Are Loved".
You Are Loved, Contemporary Folk Art Doll by Jeanne Fry

I wanted her to be a reminder that we are never truly alone, no matter what the circumstances. We are all going through similar struggles. We all have a journey that we are traveling. And we all are here to help one another on this path.

"You Are Loved" is a Cloth and Clay Contemporary Folk Art Doll. Her body was hand stitched from a beautiful blue batik fabric that is rich and soothing, and then filled with a polyfil. I created her face from clay and painted it with layers of shades of blue and white. Her big sweet brown eyes command your attention, just sending one armfuls of compassion and love. A charm is attached, resembling poetry script, memories of love notes and dreams. Fibers and ribbons are sewn on to her dress, giving her a flowing and feminine allure.

She is meant to travel with you, keep in your purse or tote bag, hang in your car, set her on your work desk, hang her in your creative space, or even on your nightstand. Let her remind you whenever you look at her, that you are not alone and You Are Loved.

"Believe" a Gourd and Clay contemporary folk art sculpted Art Doll

"Believe" is hear to remind you that you must visualize your dream, keep it at the forefront of your mind, and "believe" it will come to fruition.

Sea Turtle Spirit

Sometimes we have those moments when our emotions consume us. They can be at the forefront of our mind and direct the words that come out of our mouths as if we were an actor on a set being instructed by the cue cards.. And while sometimes it can work out, more often than not those are the moments that we wish we could undo.
We humans are passionate beings, always striving to find that balance between the heart and the mind. It's a practice, a lesson that we are continually tested on.
Finding that balance is what inspired one of my new little Wisdom Keepers.
Shelley the Sea Turtle Spirit, a Wisdom Keeper Art Doll by Jeanne Fry

Her name is Shelley, and she is a Sea Turtle Spirit. The sea turtle totem focuses on mastering the balance of emotions. It reminds us of the importance of flowing with the ebb, like the waves in the ocean. It knows how the passion of our feelings is part of the human experience and a beautiful part of our soul, and while we can't just shut them down....we can acknowledge them, accept them, and then release them. We can use them as a tool in our life's path, factoring them into the equation, but not allowing them to take full control. It teaches us patience...to wait...and make our decisions with a clear head and heart.

Antonella the Sunflower Carrier Folk Art Doll

Antonella is the Sunflower Carrier. She was present during the very first existence of Sunflowers in Tabasco, Mexico and since that glory filled day so long ago she has carried them far and wide. It became loved by many for its numerous uses and is known to some as the fourth sister, to the three sisters of corn, beans, and squash.

Antonella the Sunflower Carrier by Jeanne Fry
But aside from all the uses that exist for the sunflower, Antonella knew that this beauty was a Sun Goddess in her own right. She carries its seed in her pockets, planting and spreading the beauty wherever she travels.

Loving Mother Earth Contemporary Folk Art Doll and Symbolism

Mother Earth, Gaia, Mother Nature....the personification of the feminine influence that resides over this beautiful botanical garden that we call Earth and all of it's creatures is in my thought processes every day when I am creating. I have such a strong connection with nature and the animals, a mothering instinct, seeing the beauty in all that exists. My appreciation spans from the smallest butterfly cocoon to the tallest redwood tree.
Loving Mother Earth, Contemporary Folk Art Doll by Jeanne Fry

She is always creating a balance in this circle of life, many times having to recreate the natural order of things to accommodate our human actions.
She is the focus of my "Loving Mother Earth" folk art doll. I sculpted her face in attempt to capture the balance that she herself holds....a compassionate serene expression that is full of wisdom and at the same time carrying a strength to do what needs to be done. She may even hold a bit of sadness over how we as humans treat her, but still she creates a bounty of beauty for us to live within. She serves as a reminder to think about how we treat the earth we live on, and how we leave it for those that will come after us.

Mother Crow Gourd Art Doll Sculpture

Crows are a highly skilled and beautiful totem, and even though we have learned so much about them they still hold great mystery. We understand that they are intelligent, can use tools, and have adept communication skills, which along with their ability to work as a team make them proficient at manifesting their wants and needs. And even after all of our observing and studying, they still hold a magical sense about them that intrigues us.

It could be there are some stories about them we still do not know....such as who is Mother Crow?
Mother Crow Gourd Art Doll Sculpture by Jeanne Fry

Mother Crow presides over the entire Crow Kingdom. She stands majestically at the Tree of Crows, which is their homeland. It is here where they return to every evening as the sun is setting and the moon is rising, under the safe and loving watchful eye of Mother Crow. They are given reprieve from the constant chore of being watchmen during the day, and can rest safely under her guard. While they rest, she with great care rejuvenates them, spreading her magical sheen of protection and mastery over their feathers. Mother Crow is ever present to them here at the Tree of Crows...waiting nightly...to spread her magic again and again..watching over her clan of Crows.

Free to be Me, a Woman's Empowerment Spirit Doll

Sometimes those mornings sneak up on you...those mornings when the face staring back at you in the mirror is that of a stranger...those mornings when you just can't get your hair right, or the clothes don't fit right, or you don't even feel right in your own skin. How hard we can be on ourselves as women, always comparing ourselves to the "perceived" notion of what society thinks we should be.
Free to be Me, a contemporary folk art spirit doll by Jeanne Fry

We can spend years going through this drama if we're not careful, judging ourselves so harshly. The constant "fitting" into that box can become mundane and monotonous. And I don't really know what that moment is and can't truly explains when it happens...it's different for each of us...but soon one morning you wake up and feel perfect. Perfect being....YOU.

Was it piles of self help books? Women's Studies? Our circle of friends? For me it was simply the morning that I woke up and decided to give myself a break and ACCEPT myself, Love myself, and Cherish myself for who I am. Pure and Simple...I gave myself permission to be free.

Katrina Maize the Crystal Healer Spirit Doll by Jeanne Fry
She comes from a very distant, remote, and private island in European waters where she grew up learning everything there is to know about crystals and gemstones. As a child, you would never see Katrina without gemstones with her, most often her pockets were stuffed with them.
Crystal Healer with Citrine Druz Crystal
As she grew older she learned how to use them in healing, realizing how powerful these beauties from nature could be. The Story of Lady of the Wood, gourd art sculpture

The Lady of the Wood is not often seen, but her presence can be felt when you are strolling  in the forest. During those moments of long walks and soul searching, she watches over  seekers (those that are on a quest for peace and perspective). She knows that her land is more than a geographic coordinate, it's a journey, and while seekers visit she offers them serenity, a new outlook, a chance to breathe easy.
Lady of the Wood by Jeanne Fry

She listens even when words are not said, and knows that the gifts she offers are of high value. For truly, what is more important than soothing another soul? The world can often be harsh, and she has chosen to be a friend to all who need comfort.

Gourd Art Sculpture by Jeanne Fry

She asks for very little in return for the nurturing she provides...only that you arrive with honesty in your heart and respect for the woods and those who inhabit it.

So the next time you venture on your walk...remember that the Lady of the Wood is present, listening, and loving.
