An Earth Angel to Watch Over Me - Art Doll Pillow Accent

This is a new and different design for my Wisdom Keeper Art Doll Collection. I created this particular "Earth Angel" art doll to be an accent for one's bed pillows. She can be propped against the front of the bed pillows, as if watching over...protecting...and bringing about a peaceful love and guardianship.

I believe in Earth Angels. Recently during some difficult events in my own life, I was shown again the presence of Earth Angels and was inspired in this creation.

The Earth Angel wants you to know:
"You are Divinely Guided in all that you do.
During your darkest days Keep Your Faith.
You are Watched Over and Protected always.
May you always feel the presence of your Guardians."

Solstice Earth Mama Cloth and Clay Art Doll

I realized a few years ago how much my body and spirit needed and relied on the Sun. I had moved to the Northwest for a short time. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I met fabulous people, loved the land, and am grateful that I had the chance to experience its loveliness, but I yearned for the Sun during those rainy winter months.

I realized that the Sun changes my outlook on life and inspires me every day. Even if I spend the entire day indoors, it's very presence shining softly through the window is enough to cheer my soul.
I created "Solstice" to honor the Sun and what it brings to Mother Earth and to  my life.

This Earth Mama Cloth and Clay art doll is simply a bundle of sunshine and positive love. She wears a small button pin that says "she most heartily enjoyed pursuing life", which does a perfect job at summing up her symbolism. The small gold dragonflies in her hair just whisper a magical smile.

Violet the Flower Garden Keeper Folk Art Doll

Violet has a very special and much needed garden. Here her family of violets grow, lush and full, delicate yet strong. The Violets have a very important quest, to help the two legged beings.

You see, they befriend those that "feel" fragile. They help to boost one's self esteem and encourage one to "be" and share of themselves. They know all about the fears of not being accepted, yet they know the importance of allowing one's authentic self to shine is greater.
The Violets want you to think of them every time your light goes dim with worries, and allow their beauty to remind you of the beauty of your own spirit ... and let it bloom.

Koi - Love and Good Fortune Art Doll

"Koi" is symbolic for love and relationships. (Koi fish are very auspicious- good fortune in Feng Shui. There are many types of coloring on Koi, each representing something different. The coloring on the fish on this particular doll are symbolic for good fortune and love. The Yin Yang symbol is said to portray two Koi fish meeting - a balance- a union.)
Koi fish used to be all black and later the colorings changed. Legend says that they would swim upstream in a river, through waterfalls, until they reached the top which was called "Dragon's Gate". Here they were transformed into a dragons - their colors would change - and they were considered good fortune.

Koi the Art Doll ~
Koi has grown into a beautiful woman. She has journeyed through many lessons, swam through her own waterfalls, and has reached the Dragon's Gate in her own life. She has fulfillment in being a woman, comfortable and happy with her own self, not dependent on another person. She has learned that she needs to look inside her self for her happiness for truly only she knows what speaks to her soul.  Her persona is filled with beautiful color. Now she wraps her Koi Shawl around her shoulders, beautifully beaded, as a symbol of her attainment. She stands tall and wise and smiling. While she is in absolute contentment, she knows that  some day her "other" will come to her and she will be able to fall into a healthy and loving relationship, while never giving up "her self".

The Story of Drunken Rose Clay Art Doll Sculpted in Glass Bottle

Drunken Rose is a clay art doll that was sculpted within a glass rose water bottle. I collected this bottle a few years ago, and it sat in my studio waiting to be transformed. My great love of flowers and herbs has always been with me from childhood, urging me each year to keep gardens. I could spend hours in the garden or at a plant nursery, running my fingers through the herbs to release their scent, and creating bouquets of flowers. The therapeutic value of the aromatherapy that is offered from them makes one forget their worries and bring such comfort. When I'm in a garden, I can forget everything else, and just be...in the moment...at peace.
This feeling is what inspired Drunken Rose.

Rose spent every afternoon in her garden. She would wake at 4am, shower, and with coffee cup in hand would spend half her day writing. She was a well known poet, but she was known just as importantly for her gardens.  From Spring until Fall everyone knew that Rose would eat her lunch and immediately retreat to her gardens, rain or shine. Here she found her inspirations, here was her passion. She would lovingly plant, weed, prune, and tend every sprig of life in the rich soil. The breeze would permeate the air with the luxurious scent from the rose bushes that lined her oasis, making her feel and be the beauty that she herself was, and always appreciate the beauty around her. It was an ecstasy for Rose, luring her back each day. This is how she became Drunken Rose, intoxicated with the beauty of life and the magnificence of being Happy.

Jillian Frost an OOAK Winter Elf Art Doll of Gourd and Clay

I had taken a break for a few weeks from creating Art Dolls so that I could paint, but delved back in for the holidays. Of course my creations don't focus on Santa Claus or Snowmen, but rather on olde stories, lore, and tall tales. Most of them revolve around the woodlands, my favorite part of nature.
Coming back to the studio first produced Jillian Frost. Jillian Frost is a Winter Elf, a gourd and clay art doll. This OOAK figurative sculpture is filled with Woodland elements.

The Story of Jillian Frost
Jillian Frost, a Winter Elf, has arrived in town for the Holidays. Jillian is a mild mannered Elf, tender and caring, and watches over the woodland animals during the long cold days of Winter. She helps the wee ones find warm homes to shelter them and directs them to where they can find food. The birds especially will flock to Jillian, for they can sense her authentic compassion. She allows the winged ones to come into her home and perch on the holiday tree. They build small nests and string popcorn garland on the tall spruce tree, while she bakes cookies in the oven.

Jillian knows what old Jack Frost is up to and when he will be bringing the Frost and frigid temperatures. She is always one step ahead of him, hurrying the woodland animals to their safe havens. Grandma Jillian is most loved in the Woodlands.
Every evening the woodland animals (squirrels, birds, chipmunks, and other wee ones) will gather around Jillian as she tells them stories. They love this time of day when Jillian will spin a story and share with them a snack of gathered nuts and fresh baked bread.

(When Jillian hadn't been adopted after her holiday creation she was packed away, and in a sense had gotten lost in the archives. Now upon her reappearance, she has gotten a makeover and is ready once again to find a new home.)
